That one person...

Sunday, July 28, 2013
As each passing day marks an engraving in my existence, it's suddenly struck me to make a mental list of all the people who have made an impact in my life. Those who have come and gone, those who have stayed, those who have gone but came back once more...

And I came to a realization - that there will always be that one person whom a piece of my heart will forever belong to.

I'm not sure if it's a flaw or a blessing in the human make-up; but that's how it is, isn't it?
Everyone has that one person who took their breaths away, who held their hand (physically or metaphorically), who just made the world so much better, who put that smile on their faces even on their worse days, when thinking about said person could just push every whim of reality out of their minds, who made them think of how the future would be like with them. Be it a comfortable or awkward relationship, it will always be something to remember. They don't have to be your first, they don't even have to have had any sort of relationship with you - but they certainly won't be your last. They're the people who've come into your lives and walked out - but you've left a piece of your soul with them and no matter where they are; when you see each other once more, they'll always have some sort of effect on you. They don't have to break your heart, they don't have to have hurt you - your memories with them could have all been filled with laughter and the occasional heartbreak, but it's just something about them that causes you to hold on. And you know for a fact that the minute you get reacquainted with them, it could end in two ways i) you'll always care for them ii) your feelings return tenfold and should they show the same interest, you would go back to them without hesitation. They hold that piece for you, but it doesn't necessarily mean you hold a piece of them, but it's okay - it's how it's destined to be. It doesn't mean you aren't fully over them, you never will be. They are the ones you shared secret looks with, the ones you felt a real connection first. Or in my case, really loved. You'll never feel the same way about another person again, not just because how your feelings for each individual will be different - but because since them, you've learnt and your love will either grow passionately or shrink dispassionately. There will be no other like them.

Despite all our insubstantiality or substantiality, we will always have that one person who will shake our core. Regardless of whether or not we hold the same meaning to them, it's just the way it is. There is no real logical explanation - save the connection that you once felt.

When I look back, it's been almost a decade since it happened. Most people in general would question my ability to love at such a young age, but I honestly say this; nobody knows what love is until they've felt it. It's beautiful and you will feel so alive.

We aren't friends now, we've passed that stage and somehow morphed into acquaintances, who are separated by miles and miles of sea, lifestyle, culture and well...should the time come - other people. But I bid him a good life, because as far as he was concerned, he meant the world to me at one point; and he will always mean something to me.
